SGB - Sporting Goods Business - In the Markets: Girl Power
Excerpt from article:
Accoutrements with a touch of femininity and style such as glove, heart-rate monitors, and yoga bags afford users both fashion and function. A recent entrant into the market is Saka, which makes smart, fashionable messenger bags with a detachable cradle that carries a yoga mat while also letting it breathe.
Liza Ciano, co-owner of Saka, says her company's yoga bags are targeted to men and women who practice yoga as part of an overall fitness routine. Ciano, a Burlington, VT, dweller whose company is in close proximity to Burton Snowboards, started doing yoga to relieve pain and soreness after spending entire weekends snowboarding. "The idea for the bags just grew out of a basic need in my active lifestyle," Ciano explains. Currently, the bags are only in yoga shops, but she says the company will soon target sporting goods retailers.
